You car might have had its pre-trip inspection, but what about your body? Before you embark on your trip this festive season, you should book a general check-up and make sure your vaccinations are up to date. If you do not, you could be putting your life at risk. You may even need extra screenings and examinations.

Although mass travel has made so many things possible for so many people, it has also contributed to the spread of threatening epidemics and pandemics. Dangerous diseases can cross borders and oceans and therefore we want to make sure you understand the importance of preventative care.

A basic check-up won’t take too long. Any primary healthcare practitioner will be able to check your weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol numbers. This is also a great time to refill medications and update vaccinations. You may also wish to confirm your HIV status.

Significant threats this past year included a measles outbreak in Europe. Those who refused to vaccinate and those who did not have access to vaccines were most at risk. There was also a meningitis outbreak in Nigeria. Vaccination can be effective when it comes to preventing meningitis and some types of meningitis can be treated with antibiotics. Death or disability caused by vaccine-preventable disease is a tragedy, even more so during the festive season, some may feel.

Bridge Clinic’s primary healthcare services offered by our Medicentre includes general screenings as well as safe, effective and affordable vaccines for:

  • HPV
  • Polio
  • Rabies
  • Cholera
  • Typhoid
  • Meningitis
  • Yellow fever
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis
  • Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR)

Tests can help find problems before they start or find them early to improve treatment and chances of cure. We urge you to book an appointment to be on the safe side and especially if you have any concerns. Also don’t wait until the new year to check out any of the following: coughs, colds and fevers, asthma, diabetes, malaria and typhoid fever, ear and eye infections, gynaecological concerns, sexually transmitted infections and skin conditions.

Book a general check-up at our Medicentre today and make sure your vaccines are up to day.
